DESCRIPTION

The elderly satyr Silenus plays with his foster son, the infant god Dionysus (Roman Bacchus). He is accompanied by one of the Nysiad-nymphs who holds a bunch of grapes which the infant reaches to grab. The goat-legged god Pan (Roman Faunus) and Hermes (Roman Mercury) sit to one side. The herald of the gods wears a winged cap and sandals, and holds a lyre and caduceus wand in his hands.
