Detail of Athena from a painting depicting Oedipus and the Sphinx.
The goddess Athena stands holding a spear in one hand and a shield in the other. She wears an elaborate, peaked helm, bead necklace, coiled bracelets, aegis vest, and long white robe. The helm, breastplate, jewellery and shield feature relief work and golden highlights.
