DESCRIPTION
Heracles and his squire Iolaus battle the nine-headed Lernaean Hydra. Heracles, on the right, brandishes a club in one hand and grabs the serpent by the neck with the other. Iolaus, on the opposite side, does the same, cauterizing the regenerating neck-stumps of the beast with a curved blade and the fire at his feet. The giant crab Carcinus nips the hero's heel.
