DESCRIPTION
Thanatos (Death) carries the body of Sarpedon from the battlefield of Troy, a scene described in book 16 of Homer's Iliad. The god is depicted as a bearded, winged man dressed in a chort chiton. His beardless twin brother Hypnos (Sleep) (not shown) holds the head of the dead hero.
