DESCRIPTION
Detail of Poseidon, Amphitrite and the Charites (Graces) from a painting depicting the procession of gods attending the wedding of Peleus and Thetis.
Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite ride in a chariot drawn by four horses. The pair lack attributes and are indistinguishable, aside from the name labels, from the other deities in the scene. The three Charites (Graces) are handmaidens of the goddess Hera and follow behind her chariot (see image K17.2).
