DESCRIPTION
Side A: Labours of Heracles (see other images).
Side B: Peleus wrestles the Nereid Thetis seeking to capture her as his bride (the pair are obscured in a damaged portion of the vase). The hero is supported by the centaur Chiron who is depicted as a man wearing a chiton with the torso and rear legs of a horse attached to his rump. The wrestlers are surrounded by four fleeing Nereids who rush towards their parents, Nereus and Doris, at the opposite ends of the scene. Nereus is depicted as an old man seated on a stool with a gnarled staff in his hand.
This image is a montage of several photos of the vase.
